What Richelle is Reading
I am currently reading the following books:
The Folded Lie by Mary Graf
Eldest by Christopher Paolini
In the Shadow of the Luminaries by Kallen Samuels
I recently finished The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson.
My Review:
This is a well-written story. It was difficult to read because of the awful way some characters were treated simply because of differences in appearance. The main character, whom the mountain folks liked to refer to as Book Woman, is a gentle, kind, loveable young lady who yearns to be accepted by society. Despite her struggles with poverty and prejudice against her blue skin, she spends her days delivering library books to the people of Troublesome Creek, wanting to bring joy and education to those who eagerly await her books. Book Woman has a large heart overflowing with empathy, and that causes her to give what little she has to those in need, including any food she acquires; her time and assistance; a sympathetic, listening ear; and especially any storybooks, magazines, and newspapers she can get her hands on. The author seems to keep true to the time period, along with the social injustices that existed in that area of Kentucky. The hope is that humanity learns from its past poor behaviors and matures as citizens who are loving, kind, and humane towards all of their neighbors.

"Annabelle, the girl who was overlooked, unwanted, insignificant, worthless." — Richelle E. Goodrich
This is a fictional tale that mirrors the unfortunate reality of many young people whose home lives are private nightmares. Annabelle tenderly acquaints the reader with her lonely struggles while sharing her courage in the face of adversity. Many of the events in this book were taken from the lives of individuals known by the author.
Annabelle Fancher lives with her mother and her often-absent, alcoholic father. When he is not on the road, his presence at home creates heightened anxiety in his wife and daughter—fear caused by years of abuse. Annabelle copes with her circumstances by escaping into popular fairy tales where she dreams characters to life. When her dreams cross over into waking fantasies, and the ghostly image of a dreamed character appears before her, Annabelle begins a real struggle to separate reality from pretend and sanity from beautiful madness. This is a story where realism and fantasy beautifully intertwine.

This is why we should love more and judge less." "Tomorrow is just another synonym for hope." This book was written to inspire and uplift individuals.
